I wanted to write “it’s a chance to look back (at the path)” because that’s what people usually say. But I changed my mind. The image of the path does not fit, it is too marked out, too linear, too narrow…the metaphor that comes to mind is rather that of the ocean, a moving mass, immense and unfathomable, with its currents at the bottom and its waves at the surface.

During the last 18 months, I have learned to navigate. Often, I had wind in my sails, sometimes I had to row. I encountered many welcoming shores and a few reefs. Fortunately, I have a good compass. And I don’t navigate by sight, I navigate by azimuth.
